Dot Stamped Turtles

Materials:
-powder paint: red, orange and yellow.  Put one cup of each color on every table
-pencils with new erasers, 3 pencils per paint cup
-white oil pastels
-black construction paper

Dot Stamped Turtles Overview:  These turtles are drawn with white oil pastels onto black paper, then STAMPED, not painted, with warm colors using pencil erasers.

1- Draw a large white circle onto the middle of the page, be sure to leave space at the top and bottom for legs, a tail, and the head.
2- Draw a second, smaller circle just inside the first circle.
3- Draw 2 vertical lines and 2 horizontal lines down the center of the inner circle.
4- Draw an arch at the top of the shell in the center for the head, then add a smiley face.
5- Draw 4 legs with 3 sharp toes on each end.
6- Draw a “v” on the bottom of the shell for a tail.
7- Use the pencil erasers to stamp tiny circles all over the shell.
*Remind students that they are stamping little circles, not dragging the erasers to make lines or splattering paint.
